A highly effective healing oil, tea tree essential oil is antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiseptic which is extremely useful for your hair and skin. Tea tree oil is derived from the melaleuca tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) which is found in Australia. It’s especially good for wound healing as it’s an antiseptic and helps reduce inflammation. Be sure to use a carrier oil like coconut oil or sweet almond oil with tea tree, it can be harsh directly on your skin.
This healing and balancing oil is wonderful for fighting acne since it’s been shown to reduce the severity of acne flareups. You can add a couple drops to your facial cleanser or use it topically on acne, but be sure to use a carrier oil.
For hair, tea tree oil improves hair growth, clears dandruff, treats head lice, and unclogs hair follicles.
Tea tree oil is also excellent for cleaning and disinfecting. Add a few drops to your laundry detergent as a refresher. You can also add about 20 drops to 2 cups of apple cider vinegar and a 1/2 a cup of filtered water to make a DIY cleaner and this same solution can help kill mold.
Tea tree oil is also a wonderful natural deodorant when combined with other ingredients. It’s an insect repellent, gets rid of nail fungus, treats jock itch, and it can be uses in place of chemical laden vapor rubs.
CAUTION: Be sure to never use tea tree on cats or dogs, this includes diffusing tea tree oil around them. It's highly toxic to both animals.
TIP: You can use tea tree oil for acne and oily skin. For acne, add a few drops to your moisturizer or carrier oil. For oily skin, add tea tree oil to aloe vera and use this as a moisturizer.
